Infamous for his sexual exploits, popular R & B singer, R. Kelly (Robert Sylvester Kelly) may be spending an awfully long time behind bars. R Kelly is the motivation behind the Surviving R Kelly Lifetime series and other accounts of exploitative behavior on young women.
He was found guilty on all nine counts of the charges leveled against him including racketeering and 8 separate counts of sex trafficking over the course of 20 years. His sentencing is due on May 4.
Prosecutors alleged that R Kelly’s managers and security guards helped to further his criminal intent. Also involved was his illegal union with Aaliyah when she was still a minor.
Following the verdict, one of R Kelly’s survivors expressed hope at continuing a normal life after threats kept her in hiding.
“I’m ready to start living my life free from fear and to start the healing process,” added the woman, identified in court as Sonja.
The musician’s lawyer claimed that R Kelly was surprised he was found guilty, he also suggested that there were many inconsistencies with the testimony. He has not mentioned if they plan to contest the decision.
