The National Population Commission, NPC, says it hopes to conduct a nationwide census in 2022 once it gets presidential proclamation on the headcount.
The Chairman of the Commission, Nasir Kwarra, gave the indication during a visit to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, in Abuja, on the collation of data ahead of the 2023 elections.
Prof Yakubu urged the two government agencies to work together to enable the INEC to review electoral constituencies based on the NPC figures.
The INEC Chairman also explained that the Commission was currently undergoing removal of ineligible person’s and multiple registrants with the use of technology.
The joint work of the two commissions to demarcate the boundaries of INEC’s registration areas with the NPC’s enumeration areas have covered 261 local government areas so far.
