Cross River State Governor, Prof Ben Ayade, says given the political credentials and personality of the former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, the state All Progressives Congress, APC, will give him support to become the APC National Chairman.
Sheriff had come to Calabar as part of the stakeholders meeting to declare his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the ruling APC.
Ayade said the former Borno Governor has been a friend of Cross River State, saying with him, Cross River political future at the centre is bright.
He said the ruling APC has been a consistent party with integrity, hinting that consensus will be a good option to get a good National Chairman.
On his part, Sheriff, who had served as the National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said his intention to be the National Chairman of the APC was to strengthen the party for future development of Nigeria, strict to the ideology of its manifestoes, and respect for the rules of engagement.
Cross River State, which is the only APC state in the South-South region according to Sheriff, was the first point of call by the former Bornu State Governor as a mark of honour.
