The Ugandan blood transfusion services has disclosed that going forward, persons who regularly engage with multiple sexual partners and drunkards will be denied the privilege of donating blood.
According to a medical expert, Mr. Samuel Davis Wante, the decision was reached because it has become increasingly difficult to process blood from those who fall in that category based on their level of exposure to transmittable diseases.
“We normally find common infections such as HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B and C because these people move recklessly and get the infections. We do not take blood from such a person unless someone left prostitution 10 years ago,” he said.
Mr. Wante also revealed that donating blood has some advantages such as a lower risk of blood clots, reduced cancer risks, and longevity. The WHO has advised that a country should be able to receive blood donations from at least 1% of its entire population.
