AstraZeneca, popular for its globally acclaimed COVID-19 vaccines, has made a breakthrough with its Breast Cancer drug. The drug which targets the tumors can prevent a worsening of the disease by 75.8%.

The large clinical trial reduced the risk of death in women with metastatic breast cancer. The new development is a huge advancement in the care of breast cancer patients as the currently available drug offers a 34.1% success rate.

The drug, Enhertu was acquired in a $6.9 billion deal from its original developer Daiichi-Sankyo Co. in 2019. The drug works by targeting cancer cells in the body thus leaving healthy cells to thrive. the drug is currently being used after other forms of treatment have failed

AstraZeneca hopes the drug could be used to potentially cure the early stages of the disease in the nearest future.
