Moderna recalls 1.6 million Vaccines in Japan

Three batches of Moderna vaccines are scheduled to be recalled after Japanese authorities found traces of stainless steel contaminants in some vials.

The use of the vaccines was suspended last week immediately after the contamination issue came to the forefront.

Although the Japanese authority disclosed that the particles do not necessarily pose any additional health risk to the recipients, considering how stainless steel is sometimes used in heart valves and other invasive surgeries.

Further research suggests that the steel contamination resulted from the friction from the metal stoppers on the vials, discovered to be stainless steel.

Currently, about 500,000 persons have received shots from the suspended batches.
