A High Court sitting in Asaba, the Delta State capital, has restrained the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mai Mala Buni, from parading himself in that capacity.
The court has also suspended the APC from conducting local government congress in Delta State, scheduled for Saturday, September 4, 2021.
This follows a suit filed by the Delta State APC Deputy Chairman, Ayomanor Elvis, and other top officials of the party in the state over disputes that arose from the controversial Ward Congresses conducted in Delta State on July 10.
The Presiding Judge, Justice Onome Umukoro, ruled that the party’s National Caretaker Committee and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee headed by Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, is restrained pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice, already filed and served in the suit.
Some aggrieved APC bigwigs in Delta State, including the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo; 2019 Delta state governorship candidate, Great Ogboru, and former State House of Assembly Speakers, Victor Ochei, and Monday Igbuya had in a letter addressed to the National Organising Secretary of the APC in July, raised alarm over the confiscation of materials for the Congress in a bid to exclude other members from participation and subsequently plan to hand over the entire party structure in the state to one man.
