The rice mill Wadata in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, has been sealed by authorities of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, following the arrest of two persons reprocessing expired rice for sale.
The trucks of fungal-infested rice were reportedly transported all the way from Katsina State for polishing,re-bagging, and reintroduction into the market.
Polishing and repackaging of expired rice for unsuspecting buyers at the cost of normal seem to be quite lucrative at the rice mill Wadata within Makurdi metropolis as the suppliers reportedly smuggled in quite a large number of bags from Kastina State.
Sadly about five trucks of the highly poisonous rice had already been sent into the market before authorities busted the area.
NAFDAC officials, therefore, advised the general public to buy consumables and commodities certified with its registration numbers.
