Passengers survive shooting of boat by “unidentified” helicopter in Rivers State

It has been confirmed that occupants of an unidentified helicopter shot at a wooden boat conveying foodstuff and drinks to Bonny in Rivers State.

The wooden boat, popularly called Cotonou Boat had just set out for its journey from the Bonny-Nembe Jetty before the incident happened around the fishing settlement in Dutch Island in Okrika Local Government Area.

The yet-to-be-identified helicopter hovered for few minutes before opening fire on the boat, injuring all five passengers, including the boat pilot.

Though no life was lost, one of the victims, Auwal Rufai, who had a bullet extracted from his hand narrated all that happened to reporters through an interpreter.

The medical doctor, Collins Yakubu, who is treating some of the victims said they were brought in with police extract which facilitated their treatment.

Efforts to reach the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer were not successful as he did not respond to the calls put through to his line.
