Members of the Joint Health Sector Union, JOHESU, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital chapter have declared an indefinite strike to press home their age-long demands.
Declaring the industrial action during an emergency congress of the union in Ilorin the State capital, the Ilorin chapter Chairman, Olutunde Oluwawumi, noted that their age-long requests that borders on workers series of arrears, alleged maladministration, poor National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, for the union members and what they called out-of-stock syndrome have not been addressed till now which he said has led to hardship on the path of the workers.
This is the second time in less than two months that JOHESU members of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital chapter will be embarking on strike on same demands to press home their demands.
However, the Chairman of JOHESU University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Chapter maintained that his members can no longer endure the hardship hence the need for the indefinite strike.
Speaking on the development, the Head Corporate Affairs Unit of the UITH Ilorin, Olabisi Ajiboye, said the strike is a local one adding that the management will soon address the requests of the workers.
With this development by members of JOHESU and the resident doctors who have been on strike for almost four weeks, medical and other services expected to be rendered by the UITH Ilorin as health institution is already grounded while the common man suffers the consequences.
