The increase in cases of kidnapping especially among the lecturers and students of the University of Calabar may soon be over with the new collaborative strategies between the University and Cross River State Government to police the riverine routes in the institution.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University of Calabar Governing Council, General Amrthins Luther Agwai (Rtd), made this known in Calabar when he led the management of Unical to visit Governor Ben Ayade in the Government House.
General Agwai, who was appointed newly by President Muhammadu Buhari, said the take-off of his leadership will be from security in the university which the institution cannot do alone.
He said the new strategies including policing of the riverine environment using the joint military taskforce operations will produce a maximum result that will guarantee peace and security in Unical.
Responding, Governor Ayade, represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ivara Esu, said the Cross River State Executive Council had earlier approved the sitting of Naval Operating Base around the Unical environment to reduce insecurity in the area.
Tackling insecurity in Unical, according to the Pro-Chancellor of the institution, will give room for other developmental strides that will make the University of Calabar one of the best universities in Africa.
