Terrorism is the greatest threat to our civilization right now. Thousands of innocent individuals are killed every year as a result of these heinous acts of terror.

These crimes may be over in a matter of hours, days, weeks, or years and they leave a mark on the victim’s mind that will never be erased.

The United Nations recognizes August 21 as the International Day of Remembrance and Homage to Victims of Terrorism to remember and pay tribute to those who have lost their lives or have been traumatized by terrorism.

This day is dedicated to people who have been harmed, injured, traumatized, or killed as a result of terrorist attacks around the world. It is a significant step forward in showing solidarity with terrorist victims.

The theme of this year’s International Day is “Connections,” because victims have had to come up with inventive ways to keep connected while being separated from one another, their families, friends, and communities.

We also commemorate the victims of the Boko Haram insurgency and Fulani herdsmen massacres today. Those who died and those who survived but are still dealing with the trauma, as well as those who have lost loved ones.

We must raise the voices of victims and survivors of terrorist acts who want accountability and outcomes on a regular basis. We reduce the long-term damage that terrorists bring to individuals, communities, and society when we respect the human rights of victims and offer them aid and information.

Terrorism now has a presence in practically every country on the planet. While the effects may differ, no country has been spared the trauma.

At a moment like this, the entire world must band together to solve the problem at its source. While we’re at it, we should remember the millions of individuals who have suffered as a result of the actions of a few.

The purpose of this day is to increase awareness and empathy for terrorism victims while also protecting their rights.
