Super Eagles and Bordeaux of France winger, Samuel Kalu, collapsed in the sixth minute of his club’s Ligue un game against Marseille on Sunday evening, with scorching temperatures reaching 30 degrees at the Stade Velodrome.

Kalu fell to the ground without contact from the player, as marseille’s Dimitri Payet was preparing to take a free kick in front of the Bordeaux’s vital area.

The scene was reminiscent of Christian Eriksen’s collapse at the Euro 2020, with players from both teams rushing to the aid of Kalu, and others frantically called the attention of the medical team.

The former Gent of Belgium player was able to get up and walk off the pitch with the help of his teammates and resumed action several minutes after the incident, but was substituted in the 14th minute for Remy Oudin.

Kalu had previously collapsed in training while on duty with the Super Eagles at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

He was rushed to a hospital in Alexandria where he was diagnosed to have suffered dehydration.
