One policeman has been killed by suspected bandits who attacked Police Operatives escorting commuters from Dansadau town to Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
Nuhu Dansadau, a local, told reporters that a lorry conveying food commodities broke down and as police operatives were waiting to give security cover to the driver to fix the vehicle, the bandits opened fire on them.
He said the incident occurred on the Gusau- Dansadau road around noon.
Nuhu said the bandits also attacked a police Armoured Personnel Carrier that was escorting commuters to Gusau, the state capital and to Dansadau.
Nuhu who is a member of the Dansadau Community lamented that the road to the community is not safe for the people to travel and for the movement of farm produces to the state capital.
He asked the state government and security agencies to step up efforts to tackle insecurity in the area, which has grounded economic activities and created untold hardship for the residents.
Efforts to reach the police to confirm the development were unsuccessful as the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Mohammed Shehu, was not responding to calls put to him.
