Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, southeast Nigeria, Wednesday, declared that henceforth, no political appointee in the State will be sworn into the office unless the person’s evidence of asset declaration is provided.
Ikpeazu made the pronouncement when he received the management team from the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, in Abia State.
The team, led by the State Director, Abel Sunday, was at the Government Lodge, Aba on a courtesy visit to the Governor.
Governor Ikpeazu who noted that it is important and mandatory for public office holders in the state to declare their assets encouraged them to avail themselves of the opportunity and perform their constitutional obligations.
Describing the CCB as a watchdog, the Governor, however, implored them to fashion out ways of encouraging individuals to willingly declare their assets through capacity building, seminars, among others.
The Abia State Director of the CCB, Sunday, explained that while some public office holders in the state have declared their assets, others are yet to do so.
He assured the Governor of the commitment of his office to continue to cooperate with the state government in ensuring that public officers do what is right under the laws.
