The Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria, BON, has frowned at the recent directive by the media regulatory body National broadcasting commission NBC, to media organizations to downplay the activities of bandits and insurgents in programming and news.
The Chairman of the media body, Sa’a Ibrahim, while briefing reporters in Abuja on Wednesday, at the end of the organization’s central working committee meeting, stressed the need for dialogue before such a directive is issued.
The broadcast body also raised concerns on the high rate of licensing fees on media organizations by the regulator and called for the immediate review of the fees to reflect the present-day economic challenges.
On digitization, the BON called on NBC to bring together all the critical stakeholders in the industry to review the process.
