Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has thrown his weight behind the reorganisation of the Presidential Amnesty Programme to shift its focus away from paying ex-militants stipends to empowering them with entrepreneurial skills.
Governor Emmanuel made this known when the interim administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Col Milland Dikio (Retired) paid him a visit at Government House, Uyo.
It is the first official visit of the Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme to Akwa Ibom State as he meets with Governor Emmanuel.
Governor Emmanuel welcomed the visit and agreed that the state has not benefited much from the amnesty Programme.
He gave his support to Col Dikio (Retired) in his attempt at reorganizing the programme to make it more stainable.
The Governor called on states in the Niger Delta to embrace the programme to sustain the peace in the region.
Retired Colonel Dikio was grateful for the warm reception accorded him and promised that the programme will establish more presence in the state.
He was full of praise for the Governor’s achievements in areas such as industrialization, infrastructure, and aviation.
