The Katsina State House of Assembly has approved the creation of the Durmukul District in the Daura Emirate of the state.

Durmukul is President Muhammadu Buhari’s ancestral village, located in the Daura Local Government Area. It was under the Koza District of the Mai’adua Local Government Area.

The House of Assembly approved the development at an emergency plenary presided by the Speaker, Tasiu Maigari, after the House leaders; Abubakar Abukur and Mustapha Rabe representing Mai’adua Local Government Area sponsored the motion to that effect which was unanimously endorsed by the House.

Rabe, while presenting the motion, said the move followed a request from Governor Aminu Masari, in line with section 7 subsection 1 and 2 of the Katsina State Local Government Law 2000 as amended, seeking the creation.

After much deliberations by some members of the House, the Speaker directed the clerk of the House to communicate resolution to the executive arm for further actions.

Speaking over the development, the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Hussaini, said the creation of another district will be a milestone in the traditional and political development of the state.

The Emir of Daura, Umar Faruk, had last Friday, hinted President Buhari of plans by the Emirate to create a district to honour him, during his visit to the palace last week.
