The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Nasarawa State is lamenting over the levy set by the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, NASIEC, on the purchase of forms for chairmanship and councilorship positions in the state.
The PDP Chairman, Francis Orogu, made this known during the party’s State Executive Council meeting in Lafia, the state capital.
Orogu said the 500,000 Naira for chairmanship forms and 200,000 Naira for councilorship are quite high for the common man.
He further raised the alarm that the Internal Revenue Board is also taxing each candidate the sum of 26,000 Naira each for clearance.
Orogu said interested youths and women in the state might not be able to participate because of the high cost.
He asked that it be reduced, given the 3-days deadline given to candidates in the state, and be extended to enable interested candidates to seek out funds.
The PDP Chairman said so far, the party’s candidates for both councilor and governorship positions have come out unopposed in all the 13 local government areas of the state.
Orogu said the PDP is set for the local government polls, coming on the 6th of October.
Some of the party chieftains said the party is more ready than ever and called on the NASIEC to ensure that their conduct of the election is free and fair.
The party said membership registration can be done online.
