Members of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Aviation have expressed deep concern over the state of the local airport in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Members of the Committee who were in Ibadan on an assessment tour to evaluate the airport facilities emphasised the urgent need to upgrade the standard of the airport for the overall good and safety of the people and aircraft.

Shortly after inspecting the airport, Chairman Senate Committee on Aviation, Smart Adeyemi, speaking on behalf of other members, renewed previous calls for the upgrade of the Ibadan airport.

Earlier, the Committee was at the office of the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who urged the Federal Government to take necessary steps to upgrade the standard of Ibadan Airport.

Also speaking, Chairman House Committee on Aviation, Nnolim Nnaji, said upgrading the airport will serve as an alternative to road transportation due to challenges of insecurity.

The Ibadan airport was built and commissioned in June 1982.
