Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State are threatening to boycott the State Congresses following allegations that materials sent to the state for the party’s Ward Congresses have been hijacked by some selected party chieftains.
The aggrieved Delta State APC bigwigs including Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, 2019 governorship candidate, Great Ogboru; former State House of Assembly Speakers, Victor Ochei and Monday Igbuya in a letter addressed to the National Organising Secretary of the APC said the hijacking of materials for the Congress was in a bid to exclude other members from participation.
The letter also stated that the alleged sinister plot by some unscrupulous officials was geared towards handing over the entire party fortunes in the state to one man and subsequently to cut off other genuine leaders.
Publicity Secretary of the Delta State APC, Sylvester Imonina, in his reactions, described the allegations as unfounded conspiracy tailored towards igniting internal conflicts that will deprive the party’s chances of winning the 2023 governorship election.
While noting that every action from the aggrieved Keyamo-led party leaders to discredit the smooth conduct of the forthcoming congresses will be resisted, Imonina maintained that all materials were safely kept in the Delta State APC Chairman’s custody and were never hijacked.
