The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 146 new COVID-19 cases and one death in the country on Monday. The centre announced the additional infections on its Facebook page on Monday night, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 169,678.
With the additional death on Monday, Nigeria’s overall pandemic fatalities have risen to 2,128. On Monday, Lagos reported 134 new cases, while Ondo reported only three. Cross River, Kwara state and the Federal Capital Territory each reported two. Oyo and Rivers State reported one incidence.
According to the NCDC, 164,710 people were discharged from hospitals across the country after receiving treatment. Meanwhile, the Nigerian News Agency said that the NCDC had noticed that more than 2,800 cases remained active in the country.
The Public Health Department claims to have taken more than 2.4 million samples for the virus out of the country’s population of roughly 200 million people. The National Response Activities will be overseen by a multi-sector Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) launched at Level II.
The COVID-19 outbreak is still underway, according to the NCDC, and the Delta form has been discovered in Nigeria, which is more hazardous and spreads quicker. Citizens are advised to wear their masks properly all the time in public spaces to avoid transmission of the virus.
The celebration of Eid-ul-Adha in 2021 comes at a time when Nigerians must remain vigilant and take responsibility for their health and that of those around them, the Agency stated to prevent the virus from spreading, the agency is urging all worshipers to follow public health guidelines, such as avoiding irrelevant travels within and outside Nigeria, avoiding mass gatherings, measuring social distancing in public areas and always wearing a face mask in public.
