As the campaign against the trending evil known as rape continues across the country, Mass Communication students of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, FEDPOFFA, in Kwara State have also joined the clarion call by directing a peaceful protest against the menace.
Speaking during the protest, Head of the Department of Mass communication, Wole Alawode, and the Rector of the Polytechnic represented by the school Registrar, Adetunji Oni, noted that the campaign is part of developments in the communication department of the institution
The school lecturers, however, highlighted that government and Nigerians must play a major role in putting an end to this barbaric act in society due to the psychological, emotional, and physical effects it has on victims.
Some of the protesting students also want government at all levels to make provisions for stiffer penalties against rape and rapists.
Several cases of rape have been reported in the state recently which the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Iskil Makinde, described as disheartening.
