The Federal Government through the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria is targeting 100, 000 farmers in Adamawa State for the wet season farming.
This was disclosed at the flag-off ceremony of farm inputs distribution to farmers across the state held in the Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
At the flag-off ceremony in Ganye, the Chairman of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, Wafari Theman, revealed that each farmer will be given one knapsack sprayer, 30 kilograms of certified seed, four litters of pre and post-emergence herbicides, including other farm inputs.
Wafari said 100, 000 smallholder farmers are expected to benefit from the intervention.
The Chairman of the Rice Millers Association in the state, Abdulazeez Adamu, said they are ready to buy rice produce from the farmers, and mill it in the state, as a way of creating more jobs for the people.
Partners of the project, the Central Bank of Nigeria and Unity Bank, stressed the need for the farmers to pay back the loan, according to the outlined agreement.
To sustain the Federal Government’s programme, members of the association have been sensitized on the strategies to adopt, for loan recovery.
