The Federal Executive Council (FEC) awarded the construction of five roads to Dangote Industries Limited worth an estimated ₦309 million on Wednesday. According to Garba Shehu, President Muhammadu Buhari’s SSA on media and publicity.
The contract was awarded under the Federal Government’s Roads Infrastructure Tax Credit policy, which is a strong alliance with the private sector for infrastructure development.
A memo circulated by the Ministry of Works and housing favoured Dangote Industries Group for the construction of five projects on the road which totals 274.9 kilometres. The money-strapped administration signed an Executive Order, with code 007, the Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme, in January 2019.
The contracts, which were ratified by the FEC, will enable Dangote Industries Limited to sponsor the construction of 274.9 kilometres of roads at a cost of ₦309,917,717,251.35, exclusive of tax.
The roads, according to Shehu, are Bama to Banki in Borno State for ₦51.016 billion with 49.153 kilometres; Dikwa to Gamboru-Ngala, 49.577 kilometres in Borno State for ₦55.504 billion; the Nnamdi Azikiwe Road, popularly known as a Western Bypass in Kaduna; 21.477 kilometres, from Command Junction to Kawu, in the sum of ₦37.560 billion and the deep seaport access road sections 1 and 3 in Lagos State, through Epe to Shagamu Expressway; 54.24 kilometres, that links Lagos and Ogun States, in the sum of ₦85.838 billion; the Obele/Ilaro/Papalanto to Shagamu Road, 100 kilometres in Ogun State, in the sum of ₦79.996 billion.
The Obajana-Kabba and Bodo-Bonny bridges and roads are currently in development by Dangote Industries Group. Many more corporations have indicated interest, according to the president’s spokeswoman, and are being evaluated. As a result, the contracts wouldn’t be awarded to Dangote Industries alone, despite applying.
Shehu declared that the four-kilometre Apapa Wharf Road has been completed. The council also scrutinized and accepted a request to cut the cost of the Michael Imoudu /Afon Junction in Illorin, Kwara State by ₦204,411,926.13 for the module Gomorrah for junction routes in several parts of Kwara State.
As a result, the initial contract sum has been changed from ₦1.691 billion to ₦1.896 billion, with a 12-month completion period. The Ministry of Transportation was approved for the construction of network roads at the Federal Ocean Terminal in Onne, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, at a sum of ₦1,551,872,886.35.
