The police in Niger State have arrested 14 suspected students of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, for being members of a cult group.
The students who were arrested with two others were picked up while conducting their annual rituals in a rented apartment of one of the students, Mikailu Yahaya.
Mikail Yahaya, in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Wasiu Abiodun, said that the owner of the room was said to have completed his final exams on the 30th of June.
The statement hinted that seven of the students claimed to have graduated from the University while seven are still undergraduates of the institution.
Items recovered from the suspects include a small axe, one army trouser, one army face cap, and a pot, where dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was soaked.
Also discovered were two bottles of alcoholic drink, one MP3 radio player, and a 15 litres jerrican containing concoction, suspected to have been mixed with illicit drugs.
The suspects are aged between 20 and 28 years.
The statement further said that the case is under investigation and the suspects will be arraigned in court for prosecution.
The statement stressed the need for parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their children and wards at all times.
