The family of Dauda Danladi, who was allegedly tortured to death while in the custody of the Yelwa Divisional Police in Bauchi has frowned against an attempt by the police to perform an autopsy on the deceased.
According to the elder brother, Markus Danladi, the family through their lawyer, has written a letter to the police, requesting for an independent autopsy to ascertain the facts that led to the death of their brother, and to debunk the police press statement that the deceased died as a result of suspected asthma.
They are also calling for the immediate release of the corpse to the family for burial.
It could be recalled that the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Sylvester, had ordered for discreet investigation including an autopsy to ascertain the actual circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police had in a letter dated, 12/7/2021, requested the family to come for an autopsy at the Abubakar Tafawabalewa University Teaching Hospital Mortuary.
It advised the family to come with their family’s personal medical doctor, pathologist to witness the autopsy, after which the corpse will be released to them.
A family member, Markus Danladi, however, said the family did not receive the letter in good time, and therefore, couldn’t attend.
