A new set of leaders have been elected to pilot the affairs of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kwara State Council for the next three years.
The National Vice-President in charge of North Central Zone, Wilson Bako, who supervised the election, said it was keenly contested between four chairmanship aspirants, Dare Akogun of Sobi FM polled 72 votes while Abdullateef Ahmed of the Herald Newspaper polled 85 votes to emerge winner in the election, other chairmanship aspirants, Babajide Fadeyi of the Federal Information polled 31 votes while the incumbent Chairman, Umar Abdulwahab of the Blueprint Newspaper scored 16 votes.
Speaking shortly after the election, the newly-elected Chairman and others said the welfare of the practicing journalists in the state will be his priority as they have lined up activities to revive competitiveness amongst them.
Other voters in the election said they are satisfied with the election as it was conducted in a free and fair manner
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, through in statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaiye, congratulated the newly-elected Chairman and other excos describing the outcome of the election as a victory for every member of the pen profession who should come together to join the government to set agenda for improved socio-economic development of the state.
