Professor Adedibu Ojerinde, a former Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has been ordered to be remanded in prison custody pending the hearing of his bail application on July 8.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja gave the order after Ojerinde pleaded not guilty to an 18 count charge For diversion of public funds estimated at over N5.2billion levelled against him by the independent corrupt practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC.
In a bail application Ojerinde’s counsel, Peter Olorunnishola told the court that he has served the prosecution counsel copy of the bail application and urged the court to allow the former registrar to continue on the administrative bail, earlier granted him by the ICP.
Justice Egwatu in a ruling rejected the defence counsel request and ordered that the former JAMB Registrar be taken to prison custody till Thursday when his bail application would be considered.
The earlier plan for the arraignment was put on hold due to his request for time to enable him and ICPC to conclude the ongoing process for a plea bargain.
