The arraignment of eight suspects arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a 300-level undergraduate student of the University of Ilorin, Blessing Olajide, could not commence on Wednesday due to the inability of three of the defendants to have legal representation.
The dastardly act was committed at the lady’s Tanke residence along the University of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
It was, however, gathered that three suspects ganged raped and murdered Olajide on the 2nd of June.
Eight suspects including accomplices were arrested by operatives of the Department of the State Security (DSS), in connection with the crime.
They were arraigned before Justice Ibrahim Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin. Three of them did not have legal representation and consequently stalled the proper arraignment.
Outside the courtroom, emotions were high as family members of the deceased broke down in tears upon sighting the alleged killers of their daughter.
They expressed pain even as they await the real trial to commence so that justice would eventually be served.
