Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, says he is building on the foundations laid by leaders before him and will not succumb to the antics of some highly placed People’s Democratic Party, PDP, members in the state who are desirous of pitching him against his predecessors.

Governor Okowa made this known at Cenotaph Ground Asaba, the state capital while receiving hundreds of members of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, in Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency who defected to the PDP. He declared that all governors who ruled the state since 1999 performed very well.

The Governor said at the moment, he is focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to Deltans who freely gave him their mandate twice hinting that he cannot afford to fail them.

Describing the PDP in Delta State as one family, Governor Okowa said only the disgruntled ones who detest the truth and lack the character of the PDP are trying to break the cord that binds the party together but they will fail.

For the APC defectors, the Governor expressed the hope that their joining the PDP will further strengthen the party in the state.

The Chairman of the APC in Delta North, Major George Okafor (Rtd), who led the defectors, said that their decision to quit the APC was because the party has remained an unending battlefield without hope for the return of peace.

The State Chairman, Kingsley Esiso, was on hand to receive the defectors including Deputy Governor Kingsley Otuaro, Speaker Delta House of Assembly, Sheriff Oborevwori, Minority Leader House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, and other top government and party officials.
