Edo Govt. Restates Commitment To Enhancement Of State Sports Sector

Edo State Government has reiterated its commitment to the development of the sports sector in the state and sustenance of its reforms and programmes to enable young people to achieve their goals and potentials to the fullest in sporting activities.

This was made known by Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, when he received Edo-born UFC Welterweight Champion, Kamaru Usman on behalf of Governor Godwin Obaseki in Benin City.

The UFC Welterweight Champion, Usman, is Edo-born and he is visiting after spending a significant part of his life abroad.

For him, Nigeria in general and Edo, in particular, remain his home and he will always be proud to associate with his roots.

Governor Obaseki represented by Deputy Governor Shaibu received the champion in the Government House.

He noted with pride Kamaru Usman’s achievements.

Shaibu assured that the state government is doing its best to ensure the enhancement of the sports sector in the state.

Thereafter, the welterweight champion and his entourage were taken to see the newly remodelled Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and he interacted with sports enthusiasts.

He had a mock fight with the Deputy Governor.

Usman is a professional mixed martial artist who currently competes in the welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, where he is the current Champion.
