After videos and images of some discovery of precious diamond stones in the KwaZulu-Natal province, thousands of South Africans have overcome their pandemic fears flocking to the village to get a taste of wealth.

The development has however generated some concerns for the government who believe that if not properly curtailed could result in a stampede.

Many citizens are still digging in Ladysmith, at the province for diamonds without face masks and with no social distancing in sight.

The government spokesperson, Lennox Mabaso has disclosed the issue has been referred to the Department of Minerals and Energy who will in turn conduct a site inspection.

The KwaZulu Natal Province Premier, Sihle Zikalala called for decorum citing that the illegal hunt for the precious stones are in violation of the Coronavirus social distancing guidelines.
