A 60-metric ton cassava starch factory built by the Bayelsa State government is now ready for use.
Governor Douye Diri disclosed this on Saturday during an inspection tour of the factory located at Ebedebiri in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.
The cassava starch factory project was started by the immediate past administration.
As part of Governor Diri’s drive to boost the local economy through agriculture, his administration had embarked on its completion.
Sited at Ebedebiri community, the cassava starch factory has the capacity to process 60 metric tonnes of cassava per day.
Governor Diri went around the project which now awaits commissioning just as he expressed satisfaction with the level of work done.
The Governor, however, allayed worries that due to its production capacity, the quantity of cassava produced in the state would not be enough for it to produce at full capacity.
At a time when there are moves by governments at all levels to diversify the economy from over-dependence on crude oil, Bayelsans were urged to see the project as a means of generating revenue for themselves and the state.
