Security agencies in Cross River State have raised the alarm over importing of arms by non-state actors, warning that the joint security operatives will not spare anyone disguising in the name of protest and unapproved political rally.
The chairman of security agencies in Cross River and the State Commissioner of Police, Sikiru Akande, made this known shortly after an emergency security council meeting held at Government House Calabar.
Akande said Operation Restore Peace and Special Forces coming from Abuja are on red alert to address any security challenges in the state.
He enjoined the people of Cross River State to support security agencies by giving useful and intelligence information, noting that the security will not tolerate anyone hiding under the guise of activism or political sympathisers to cause havoc in the state.
The emergency security meeting attended by the Commissioner of Police, Director of DSS, and Head of Military and Para-Military Agencies was a result of a threat to peace by what the CP described as political activism ahead of the June 12 Democracy Day celebration.
