A group, Concerned Staff of National Assembly, which appointments have not been regularized by the National Assembly Commission, NASC, since 2018, has issued a 7-day ultimatum to the Commission to absorb them into the system.

The group in a peaceful protest at the National Assembly said it has almost 75% of the required documentation and yet have not resumed duty.

According to the group, of 500 engaged, 300 were absorbed into the system leaving out 200 till date.

In a memorandum it submitted to the leadership of the NASC, the aggrieved group demanded among others, full implementation of the NASC ad-hoc committee report on the 2018 recruitment.

The Concerned Staff of National Assembly also demanded justice from NASS management to resume duty within seven working days as it said that it can no longer “afford to lose any further year(s) of service and three years salary benefits and allowances

Other demands listed by the protesters include the immediate documentation of all Medical Doctors/workers (formerly Locum) because of the overwhelming gaps in the Clinic and offering essential services to the NASS populace.

Medical Doctors/ workers (formerly Locum) are paid their 24 months outstanding allowances having been working in the National Assembly clinic till date.

Reacting, the National Assembly Service Commission Commissioner Northeast, Bilaminu Yusuf Shinkafi, said that the affected persons were employed under the leadership of the 8th assembly and the 9th Assembly upon resumption embarked on another recruitment which led to the clash.

Yusuf, however, assured talks are ongoing with the management of the commission to ensure an amicable resolution.
