A section of the Federal Secretariat Complex along Okpanam Road, Asaba recorded a fire outbreak that started early Tuesday morning.

The properties were destroyed by the early morning fire which was said to be as a result of a power surge from one of the air conditioners installed in the office of the national youth service corps.

The fire said to have started around seven in the morning was first noticed by the Federal Fire Servicemen attached to the complex but could not do much due to the fact that the complex is always locked up after work.

According to the Fire Service Assistant Comptroller General in charge of Zone K, Udom Daniel, who was prompt at the fire scene, his men would have contained the inferno early enough if they had had access to the complex.

The NYSC State Coordinator whose office was also affected could not say precisely the cause of the fire rather, she explained that she rushed to the office based on a call she received concerning the fire incident.

Both the Fire Service Assistant Comptroller General and Delta SEMA Director bemoaned Nigerians’ lack of being fire conscious and poor management.

As of the time of filing this report, the level of devastation could not be ascertained but with the look of things, and according to the NYSC State Coordinator, her office, ICT, the deployment, and relocation offices were badly affected.
