Authur, a five months old infant is one of the foremost to receive life-changing gene therapy, the world’s most expensive medicine on Britain’s National Health Service.

The specialized gene therapy drug is worth an estimated £1.8 million per patient and helps to correct Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). SMA is a condition that causes progressive muscle weakness and the drug -a Zolgensma gene therapy will help stop further deterioration.

Although some irreversible damage had been done already to Authur’s body, as he is unable to move his head, arms and legs, experts believe the therapy will help stabilize his condition affording him the chance of a higher rate of survival and life expectancy of at least 40 years.
