As Kenya’s president, Uhuru Kenyatta was delivering his Madaraka Day speech, which marks the anniversary of Kenya’s self rule, a man wearing a Jubilee Party shirt charged towards him but was curtailed by security agents before getting to the president.
The President, during his speech asked his men to not harm him and continued to read his speech. Kenyatta shared his greviances with the decision taken on the BBI initiative by the judiciary recently and also in the past where his presidential election victory was cancelled.
According to the president, the nullification of the elections cost the country an estimated $9.3 billion USD.
From nullification of a presidential election in 2017 to an attempt to stop the will of the people as expressed through BBI, the judiciary has tested our constitutional limits, but not broken them,” Kenyatta said in a televised speech.
“We must follow the rule of law and obey the decisions of the courts but the sovereign and supreme voice of the people of Kenya must also be followed.”
“The field of independence has been expanded in the judiciary, and so the field of their responsibility should respond to the summons of nationhood,” said Kenyatta, adding that court decisions “should be accompanied by a burden of choice.”

But the judiciary is not alone concerning the BBI sentiments, many have opined that it is but a front to keep the President in power, seeing as he is not allowed to seek a third term in office.
