A creek in Bayelsa which was originally designed by the civilian administration of Late Diepreye Aamieseigha and his successor, Goodluck Jonathan, to be a tourist destination for Nigerians which has been left abandoned 24 years after the state was created.

The business of local fishing on the Epie Creek in Yenagoa is on the increase while the dream of developing the creek into one of the Marine tourist centre in the Niger Delta region has suffered setback following the lack of Government Political will to invest in such ventures.

The creek which runs through the length of Yenagoa with tourist potentials looks abandoned on sight.
Overgrown grasses, shrubs, and water hyacinths have blocked the major part of the creek, making accessibility for local Farmers to their farmland difficult.

With the ongoing Urban renewal programme of Governor Douye Diri in Bayelsa State, the Epie indigenes sought an upgrade of the natural water channels and major drains along the shores of the rivulet in boosting the aesthetics of the capital city waterfront.

A group of women from Onopa Community in Yenagoa had last year staged a peaceful protest against the state government over total neglect of the Epie Creek.
