Rivers State counter sues FG's 'Stay of Execution' at Supreme Court

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, says winning the fight against the many security challenges facing Nigeria, requires the total commitment of Nigerians even as he called for more support especially for members of the various security forces who continue to lay down their lives.

Governor Wike who on Wednesday played host the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP, also warned against the continued politicization of security in the country, saying that such might spell doom for the country.

Nigeria’s Acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, is in Rivers State.

The Police Chief is in town for the launching of a security operation that would help tackle violent crimes and restore sanity to the State and region.

It’s tagged ‘Operation Restore Peace’ and it’s coming on the heels of deadly attacks on security agents and destruction of state assets.

The IGP is also using the visit to Rivers State to especially thank Governor Wike for the enormous support the Force has enjoyed from his administration.

The Governor said that security agencies must also be well equipped and given the necessary encouragement they require to fight crime and criminality.

He added that Nigerians must never succumb to forces hell-bent on destroying the country, saying that Rivers State will never be part of any separatist agenda.

As Alkali settles down to work, Governor Wike wants the new IGP to be wary of the antics of politicians and concentrate more on building a new image for a Police Force that would not be partisan during the next general elections in the country.
