The Chairman of Bakassi Local Government Council, Iyadim Amboni Iyadim, has raised alarm over possible take over of the council by militants and other criminals that have made good governance in the area near impossible.
Iyadim made this known when he led a civil society advocacy group “NO SIDON LOOK” to inspect the level of damage done during the last endsars protests in the area.
The Chairman explained that the heightened insecurity in the local government has also forced council staff and other elected officers of the council to relocate to Calabar.
While calling on the president to deploy more security presence to the Local Government Area, the chairman said the activities of militants, cultists, and armed robbers have escalated in recent times and has resulted in the loss of many lives.
The Team Leader of “No Sidon Look” Group, Portrait Peterson, who called for the quick Intervention of the state and Federal Government, said the organization’s intention of coming to Bakassi was to survey the increase of insecurity in the area.
The group said it will visit more local government areas in the Niger Delta Region which has security and development issues, in the fulfillment of part of its mandate.
