Auwalu Daudawa

Auwalu Daudawa who was the mastermind of the infamous abduction of the Kankara boys in Katsina was said to have repented and surrendered to the Zamfara State government.

He was reported dead last month after allegedly returning to the forest to resume his old ways. But the circumstances of his death are still generating doubts as to whether he actually died.

Daudawa, who was the mastermind of the abduction of the Kankara schoolboys, and one of the notorious bandit leaders who has been terrorizing innocent citizens in Zamfara and other contiguous states.

He has his camp in Dumburum Forest in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The local government is one of the worst hit by bandits.

He was said to have been killed recently when he returned to perpetrate the crime he swore with the Holy Qur’an, renouncing before government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders.

The death of Daudawa remains a mystery in the minds of some residents of the Gusau metropolis. Some of them are interrogating the circumstances surrounding his death.

They are asking who killed the notorious bandit leader, Auwalu Daudawa? Was he killed by his sponsors to avoid being exposed, where is his dead body, and who buried him?

Human Rights activist, Dr. Anas Anka, Public Affairs Analyst, Salisu Gusau, and Abba Kabara a journalist, believe that there is a need for the Zamfara State government to review its peace initiative with the bandits, by providing a framework.

They harped on the need for both government and the bandits, to be honest, and sincere, especially in the ongoing peace process, to ensure peace reigns in the state.

With the return of Daudawa, one of the notorious bandit leaders, who claimed the volunteer groups popularly known as Yansakai, forced him into banditry, to commit the crime he had repented and promised not to go back again.

His action is questioning the integrity and sincerity of the bandits to keep their part of the bargain, despite the efforts of the state government to amicably resolve their conflict with the local militias to ensure peace in Zamfara State.
