Nasai community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State has paid bandits eight million Naira to allow the locals to cultivate their farms during this year’s rainy season.
The money was raised by 400 household heads. Each of the household heads was said to have paid the sum of 20,000 Naira.
With the payment, the bandits will neither abduct nor kill any local.
Some of the communities in Shiroro Local Government Area have devised a means of reducing the hardships they are facing since they have no sustainable means of livelihood at the moment.
Bandits in the area, sources said, have continued to enter into agreements with communities willing to pay tax so that they will cultivate their farms during the rainy season.
