The WHO chief, Tedros Gbebreyesus has in a briefing urged first world countries to donate COVID-19 vaccines through the COVAX scheme to poorer nations instead of vaccinating children.

According to the WHO Chief, the second year of the coronavirus pandemic is set to be more deadly than the first using India as a case study, and as such, it would be more beneficial to prevent a similar occurrence in other countries.

Mike Ryan, a top health official also at the same briefing also advised for some measures to be put in place before a maskless policy in public spaces can ensue

“In the instance of a country that wishes to take away a mask mandate … that should only be done in the context of considering both the intensity of transmission in the area and the level of vaccine coverage,” Ryan said.

While the WHO technical leader established that more COVID-19 variants are bound to be discovered, she expressed confidence on how to curb the disease.
