30 dr congo sentenced to death

30 DR Congo citizens have been sentenced to death in the wake of anti-police violence that led to the death of a police officer who died in Kinshasha.

Two rival muslim groups fighting over the right to use a major sports stadium as the preferred venue to end the fasting period was the cause of the fracas.

In total, in addition to the deceased police officer, an estimated 40 persons were injured. Considering the moratorium which was established in 2003, death penalties have not been carried out and mostly end up as life imprisonment sentences.
