Reactions have continued to trail the recent ruling by the Supreme Court in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over the unlawful dissolution of the 34 elected local government area chairmen in 2015 by Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Chairman of the PDP in the state, Salisu Majigiri, hailed the ruling as not only a victory to democracy and the party as a whole, but also serve as a blueprint to all governors in the states not to illegally dissolve constitutionally and democratically elected council bosses.

On the part of the state government, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ahmed El-Marzuq, said the government will respect and comply with the decision of the court, as the ruling was simple and straightforward.

He hinted that the government has already begun payment of the entitlements to some of the parties involved, putting it to about 80%.

It could be recalled that Governor Masari on the assumption of office in July 2015, unlawfully dissolved Katsina State duly elected council officials on the allegation of misappropriation of local governments funds.
