A planned meeting between the Senate and Service Chiefs over rising insecurity has been postponed till Thursday following the National Security Council meeting at the Presidential Villa with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday.

The upper legislative chamber had last week reached a resolution asking the newly appointed Service Chiefs to appear before it to provide an explanation for the rising wave of insecurity in the country.

The Senate’s decision followed a motion by Senator Sani Musa(APC, Niger, East) which drew attention to attacks by Boko Haram insurgents and bandits on 42 communities in Niger State.

The upper legislative chamber had also requested private session with President Buhari with a view to finding lasting solutions to the situation.

Tuesday’s planned meeting with the Service Chiefs could not hold as the top Security Chiefs were engaged in the weekly National Security Council meeting with the President.

The crucial meeting will now take place on Thursday.
