Primary and Secondary School Teachers in Niger State are to embark on strike from midnight, Tuesday, May 4.
The strike warning was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Niger State Wing, Ibrahim Umar.
The Union has resolved to embark on industrial action unless Niger State Government resolves the lingering issues affecting members of the Union.
Issues raised by the NUT include non-implementation of 30, 000 Naira minimum wage for primary school teachers on grade level seven and above; non-payment of four months’ salary of newly recruited primary school teachers; non-implementation of teachers salary structure for professional and nonprofessional teachers; the non-implementation of promotion for teachers in both primary and secondary schools.
The statement further said that the union is ready to negotiate with the government to resolve the issues amicably.
