The lingering strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, has continued to generate reactions.

A cross-section of the people in Jos, the Plateau State capital, expressed worries that the crises in the education sector will further reduce the already fallen standard, if not quickly addressed.

The role of education in any society can not be overemphasized. Here in Nigeria, the sector has continued to struggle for survival as a result of neglect from the government and relevant stakeholders.

For the citizens, if the education sector is allowed to remain in this state, then Nigerians should be prepared to face greater consequences of the neglect.

Students are not happy with the lingering strike and called on the government to come to their aid, as they are tired of staying at home.

All respondents admit that it is high time the government gave priority to education as no meaningful development can take place in a society that fails to recognize the value of education.

It is hoped that the government will arise and quickly address the crises bedevilling the sector to allow a smooth flow of academic activities.
